Cyberpunk 2077 finally has official console mod support. Update 2.5, released October 22, 2026, adds an in-game mod browser powered by mod.io on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. PC and Mac players receive it too, while CD Projekt Red said the Nintendo Switch 2 version would follow shortly after the initial rollout.
This is not unrestricted PC modding copied onto a console. It is a curated system built around approved mod.io files, an account connection, and platform-specific limits. Here is how to set it up and what to check before changing an existing save.
How to install Cyberpunk 2077 mods on PS5 or Xbox
- Install Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 and restart the game.
- Open Mods from the main menu.
- Sign in with your CD Projekt Red account when prompted.
- Connect that account to mod.io.
- Browse the available console-compatible mods and subscribe to the ones you want.
- Let the game download the files, then enable them before loading a save.
These steps follow CD Projekt Red’s official cross-platform mod support guide. You do not need access to the console file system, a USB drive, Nexus Mods, or a separate PC installation.
Why the console library is smaller than the PC library
Only mods prepared for cross-platform support and cleared for a specific console can appear in the in-game browser. A popular PC mod may depend on scripting frameworks, executable code, external files, or features that the console version cannot use. Console submissions also have to meet the platform’s user-generated-content rules.
That means the mod.io page is the reliable catalog. Do not assume that a mod shown in a YouTube video or listed for the PC version will be available on PS5 or Xbox. Availability can also differ between consoles, so check the platform labels on the individual mod page.
The tradeoff is simplicity. Console players get a supported installation route with no manual folder work. PC players still retain broader manual and REDmod options, but those remain a different ecosystem from the curated console library.
Do mod subscriptions carry between platforms?
CD Projekt Red says subscriptions can follow the same linked account across platforms. If you subscribe to a supported mod on PC and later sign in on PS5 or Xbox with the same accounts, the game can show that subscription on the other device.
The important word is supported. Cross-progression saves work best when every platform has access to the same required mods. A PC save that relies on a mod unavailable on console may load incorrectly, lose modded objects, or behave differently. Before moving a save, compare the active list on both devices.
Should you use mods on an existing save?
Read each mod’s description before installing it. Cosmetic changes are usually less invasive than quests, progression systems, item overhauls, or gameplay frameworks, but no community mod is guaranteed to be risk-free. A creator may require a fresh save or warn against removing the mod midway through a playthrough.
Keep at least one unmodded manual save. Do not overwrite every save after enabling several mods at once. Adding mods in small batches makes it much easier to identify a conflict, and disabling a problem mod may not reverse changes already written into the save.
CD Projekt Red also states that it does not create or maintain community mods. Support for the base game does not mean the studio can repair every third-party modification.
What else is in Update 2.5?
The official Update 2.5 notes add the Clampdown side quest, a five-piece gear set based on King, the HKGN 102.0 FM station, customizable hand cyberware, new outfits, and the Double Trouble perk for dual-wielding Power pistols and revolvers.
Clampdown takes place before Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. If the anime connection is why you are returning to Night City, our Edgerunners 2 watch-order guide explains what you need to watch or play first without treating the new season as a direct continuation.
The safest way to start
Update the game, link mod.io, choose one or two clearly labeled console mods, and test them on a separate manual save. Console modding is now far easier, but it is still modding. The curated browser reduces installation friction, not every compatibility risk.
