NVIDIA Reflex in Valorant is worth checking before you spend money on a new graphics card. NVIDIA’s September 17 showcase puts the RTX 5080 and four-digit frame rates in the spotlight. For most players, though, the more useful takeaway is a setting they may already have access to.
You don’t need a pro team’s PC to try it. Here’s what those performance claims mean, what Reflex actually does, and where to start on your own system.
What NVIDIA’s 1,000 FPS claim tells us
In its latest Valorant performance showcase, NVIDIA advertises roughly 1,000 FPS at 1080p with maximum settings on the RTX 5080, alongside PC latency below 3 milliseconds with Reflex. It also cites a reduction in PC latency of up to 49% when using Reflex in Valorant.
Those are NVIDIA’s figures, not results from our own testing. They shouldn’t become an expectation for every PC containing the same GPU. The processor, settings and workload still matter, especially when chasing extremely high frame rates.
The useful question is how much responsiveness your current setup leaves on the table. A big number in a promotional chart can’t answer that for you.
Your older GeForce card may already support Reflex
NVIDIA’s Reflex documentation lists support starting with the GeForce GTX 900 series. That includes later GTX cards and RTX generations, so this isn’t a feature reserved for the RTX 50 series.

Reflex coordinates the game’s CPU work with GPU rendering to reduce the queue of frames waiting to be drawn. Shortening that queue can help your actions appear sooner. Think responsiveness rather than a promise of a higher FPS counter.
PC latency and your ping measure different things
A sub-3-millisecond PC latency figure doesn’t mean a complete click-to-screen response under 3 milliseconds. NVIDIA’s technical explanation of PC latency separates the PC portion from the delays introduced by your input devices and display.
Your network connection is another part of the experience. Reflex doesn’t move a game server closer to your home or repair an unstable connection. If your problem is high ping or packet loss, changing a graphics setting won’t address that cause.
This distinction matters when comparing numbers online. Two screenshots labeled “latency” may be measuring different parts of the journey.
Should you choose On or On + Boost?
Look for NVIDIA Reflex Low Latency in Valorant’s graphics settings. The available choices include Off, On and On + Boost.
- On: the sensible starting point. NVIDIA’s latency optimization guide recommends enabling Reflex in supported games.
- On + Boost: keeps GPU clocks higher in situations where the CPU is limiting performance. It can trim additional latency, but the trade-off is higher power consumption.
Boost is worth comparing on your own machine. Its benefit depends on the workload, and NVIDIA describes the improvement in some CPU-limited situations as modest. On a laptop, pay attention to temperatures and fan noise during that comparison.
Check the setup you already own
Enable Reflex, keep your test conditions consistent, and check that your monitor is actually running at its intended refresh rate. NVIDIA also recommends checking the display’s refresh-rate setting as part of reducing system latency.
Change one thing at a time. Otherwise, you won’t know whether a difference came from Reflex, a graphics preset or another setting. If you’re comparing latency readings, use the same measurement tool and metric throughout.
A graphics upgrade can still make sense. But first establish what is slowing down your experience. That’s a much better starting point for your next purchase than trying to match a professional player’s parts list.
