EA FC 27 supports cross-play, but it does not put every platform into one universal pool. PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC players can connect with one another. PS4 and Xbox One players form a separate old-generation group, while Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 are excluded from FC cross-play.
Those boundaries matter before you buy the game to play with friends. Owning FC 27 on two supported platforms is not enough if the versions belong to different generations. Cross-play and cross-progression also solve different problems, so one does not automatically guarantee the other.
Which EA FC 27 platforms can play together?
EA divides cross-play into two platform generations:
- Current generation: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
- Old generation: PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
A PS5 player can therefore play supported online modes with friends on Xbox Series X|S or PC. A PS4 player can connect with Xbox One players. PS5 cannot cross-play with PS4, and Xbox Series X|S cannot join the Xbox One pool, even when both versions run on hardware from the same console family.
The official EA cross-play support page confirms these generation groups and notes that cross-play availability can depend on the online mode being used.
Does Nintendo Switch 2 support FC 27 cross-play?
No. EA says Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 do not support cross-play for EA Sports FC. Switch 2 receives current-generation features such as The Grounds, but that does not place it inside the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC matchmaking group.
This is an easy detail to miss because Switch 2 is listed beside current-generation systems for some FC 27 features. Feature parity and cross-play support are separate questions. If your main goal is playing online with friends on PlayStation, Xbox, or PC, the Nintendo version will not provide that connection.
How to turn cross-play on or off
Cross-play should be available through EA Connect and the game’s online settings. From the main menu, open EA Connect, enter Social settings, choose Cross-play, and then open Cross-play settings. Set Cross-play Enabled to Yes or No.
You can also reach the option through Customize, Online Settings, and Matchmaking Options. Ultimate Team provides access through its own main menu. Menu wording can change with updates, but the setting should remain tied to EA’s social or matchmaking controls.
Disabling cross-play narrows matchmaking to your own platform. That can be useful for troubleshooting, but it may increase search times or reduce the available opponent pool. If you cannot find a friend, first confirm that both players have cross-play enabled and are using versions from the same generation group.
Cross-play is not cross-progression
Cross-play determines who can join the same supported online match. Cross-progression determines whether your saved progress follows you to another version. EA says progression can move within the same console family, such as PS4 to PS5 or Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S, but not from PlayStation to Xbox.
EA also limits cross-generation progression on PlayStation to Ultimate Team. Do not assume that Career Mode saves, settings, or every other form of progress will move simply because the two consoles use the same EA Account.

What to check when cross-play is not working
Make sure both players have installed the latest update, connected to EA’s online services, and linked the intended EA Account. Compare the exact game versions, not only the console names. A player launching the PS4 version on a PS5 still belongs to the PS4 generation pool.
Next, verify that the chosen mode supports cross-play and that neither account has privacy or parental controls blocking online communication. Search for the other player through EA Connect using the correct EA ID rather than relying only on a platform friend list.
The safest buying rule is to match generations before matching brands. PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC can form one group; PS4 and Xbox One can form another. Switch players remain separate. Once that is clear, most FC 27 cross-play confusion disappears before anyone spends money on the wrong version.
