Hogwarts Legacy DLSS 5 Update: Requirements, Settings, and What Changes

Hogwarts Legacy received NVIDIA DLSS 5 with 3D-Guided Neural Rendering on November 5, 2026. The update is more than another frame-rate toggle: it uses a developer-tuned AI model to add richer lighting and material detail to the existing scene. But local support is limited to newer hardware, so not every RTX owner will see the option.

Which PCs support Hogwarts Legacy DLSS 5?

For local PC play, NVIDIA says the new Neural Rendering option is available on all GeForce RTX 50 Series desktop and laptop GPUs, plus RTX Spark PCs. It is not listed for RTX 20, 30, or 40 Series cards. Those older RTX GPUs can still use the DLSS features already supported by the game, but they do not get this specific DLSS 5 neural-rendering mode.

The cloud route is broader. NVIDIA says the update is available through GeForce NOW Ultimate, which lets a subscriber stream the upgraded version without owning an RTX 50 Series PC. You still need access to a supported PC copy of the game in your connected store library, and streaming quality depends on your network and Ultimate membership.

If the RTX naming is confusing, our RTX vs. GTX guide explains which NVIDIA families include ray-tracing and DLSS hardware. We also have a separate breakdown of what RTX Spark is.

How to turn on Neural Rendering

Install the November 4 Game Ready Driver through the NVIDIA app, then download the November 5 Hogwarts Legacy game update. Launch the game, open its graphics options, and look for Neural Rendering. NVIDIA describes it as a simple on-or-off control for players, while the detailed tuning remains in the developer’s hands.

For the full presentation NVIDIA recommends enabling several other options when your hardware can handle them:

  • Upscale Type: DLSS Super Resolution
  • Frame Generation: DLSS Multi Frame Generation
  • Low Latency Mode: NVIDIA Reflex
  • Ray Reconstruction: turn it on when using ray-traced effects

These settings do different jobs. Neural Rendering adds lighting and material information. Super Resolution reconstructs a higher-resolution image. Multi Frame Generation creates additional frames, while Reflex aims to reduce input latency. Turning on every feature is not automatically the best choice for every display. Match your frame-rate target to your monitor and check image quality in motion.

What actually looks different?

According to NVIDIA’s official DLSS 5 comparison, the upgrade enhances environmental detail and shadows, improves texture detail on characters, refines shading and lighting, and makes reflections more vibrant. The model uses game data and controls tuned with Avalanche Software, rather than applying a generic filter to the finished image.

That distinction matters. NVIDIA says the system is designed to preserve character identity while improving materials and light response. It does not replace the game’s geometry or redesign faces. The clearest differences should appear in shadowed interiors, reflective floors and surfaces, skin and fabric response, and scenes with ray tracing enabled.

Does DLSS 5 guarantee the advertised frame rates?

No. NVIDIA’s headline figures are vendor benchmarks, not a promise for every PC. Its top example reaches up to 300 fps at 4K on a GeForce RTX 5090 with maximum settings, ray tracing, Ray Reconstruction, Reflex, Neural Rendering, and 6X Multi Frame Generation. That number includes generated frames and comes from a flagship GPU under NVIDIA’s test conditions.

Use the benchmark as proof that the feature can run at high speed on supported hardware, not as a universal expectation. CPU performance, chosen upscaling mode, system memory, driver version, the area of the game, and monitor resolution all affect the result. If movement feels uneven despite a high counter, our guide to VRR, G-Sync, FreeSync, and V-Sync can help you set a sensible cap.

Should you reinstall Hogwarts Legacy for this update?

RTX 50 Series owners who value ray-traced visuals have the strongest reason to return. The update targets visible lighting and material improvements, and it is free for existing owners. RTX 20, 30, and 40 Series players should not reinstall solely for Neural Rendering because NVIDIA does not list those cards as supported locally. GeForce NOW Ultimate is the practical alternative if you want to see the mode without buying new hardware.
