BeamNG.drive arrives on PlayStation 5 on October 19, 2026, but it will not be identical to the long-running PC version on day one. The console release brings the driving sandbox, its physics-heavy crashes, and couch play to PS5 in Early Access. Mods and virtual reality support are not included at launch.
When does BeamNG.drive launch on PS5?
Developer BeamNG has set the PS5 release for Monday, October 19, 2026. The studio has not announced a universal unlock hour, so the safest move is to check the PlayStation Store in your U.S. time zone on launch day rather than assume a midnight release.
The official announcement also says PC update v0.40 should arrive around the same time. That matters because the studio is treating PS5 as another active version of the same evolving simulator, not as a finished spinoff.
What the PS5 version includes
The appeal remains BeamNG.drive’s soft-body vehicle simulation. Cars deform panel by panel, weight transfer changes how they handle, and collisions produce more than a canned damage animation. The PS5 edition includes 12 environments and several ways to use them:
- Freeroam for open-ended driving, testing, and crashes.
- Scenarios with structured objectives and unusual challenges.
- Time Trials for cleaner, repeatable competition.
The PlayStation Store listing supports one to four offline players and lists DualSense vibration and trigger effects. It also identifies 17 accessibility features. That makes the console version easier to approach from the couch than a PC setup built around community content and peripherals.
What is missing compared with PC?
Two omissions are confirmed. Mods are not supported at launch, and neither is VR. That is a meaningful difference because PC mods can add vehicles, maps, scenarios, and tools that greatly expand the base game.
BeamNG says it wants the versions to reach feature parity over time, but the studio has not promised a date or exact scope. Treat future mod or VR support as a goal, not a guaranteed launch feature. The store also lists offline play rather than online multiplayer, so buyers should not assume a network mode that has not been announced.
What does Early Access mean on a console?
Early Access means the game is playable but still in active development. BeamNG.drive has followed that model on PC for years, with major systems, maps, vehicles, and interface elements changing through updates. The PS5 label is therefore a warning about continued iteration, not a sign that the download is a short demo.
The practical tradeoff is simple. You get the core simulator now, but features can change, bugs are possible, and the console version starts behind PC in some areas. If you want a fixed campaign with a conventional finish line, this is not that kind of racing game.
Price, storage, and launch details still to confirm
As of October 18, the official U.S. materials do not provide a firm U.S. price or exact unlock time. Storage requirements can also change with the launch build. Wishlist the game and confirm those details on its store page before buying.
If you are comparing October downloads, our guide to the October 2026 PlayStation Plus Game Catalog can help you separate subscription additions from standalone purchases.
Should you buy it on PS5 or wait?
Buy the PS5 version if you mainly want freeroam driving, detailed crash physics, controller feedback, and local play without maintaining a gaming PC. Stay on PC if mods, VR, custom hardware, or the broadest feature set are central to the experience. Wait for updates if you expect full parity immediately.
The PS5 launch is still a major step for BeamNG.drive. It opens a famously demanding vehicle sandbox to a larger audience, but the best purchase decision comes from understanding the limits of the Early Access build before launch day. Players who mainly want controlled crash experiments and stock vehicles may find the launch package complete enough without community additions.
